Welcome back, daylight savings time.
I’ve been a little down lately due to some weird health stuff and general winter melancholy, but I’m staging a comeback. It begins with this, the first finished piece in my 2014 lettering project. Create, create. Start now.
I finally narrowed down my list of ideas for the first hand lettered piece I’m doing this year. The theme is beginnings, and here are the options:
1 // Begin at the beginning … and go on till you come to the end: then stop. (Lewis Carroll)
2 // And so each venture is a new beginning. (T.S. Eliot)
3 // Look with favor upon a bold beginning. (Virgil)
4 // The beginning is the most important part of the work. (Plato)
5 // Mighty things from small beginnings grow. (John Dryden)
Voting is limited to my $2+ patrons on Patreon, so if you want to join in and share your opinion before I get started, go HERE. Yay!
Last year I tried to do a “52 Weeks of Hand Lettering” project and it didn’t end up working out so well. I wasn’t sure how many prints of each week to make, and I realized I couldn’t keep up with the pace of 1 new piece every 7 days, logistically or financially.
So this year I’m doing something a little different. I started a campaign on Patreon to help fund 2-4 new hand-lettered illustrations every month, and in return for their support, my patrons get some cool stuff: behind-the-scenes peeks at my process, the ability to vote each month on which quotes they’d like to see me illustrate, and even free 5x7" prints. Take a closer look at the project details here (there’s a bonus awkward explanatory video of me in it for you as well).
I don’t know the exact measurements, but it is giant. Really giant. Like, actually the size of my head.
